UniGroup—the parent company of United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit—in celebration of United Van Lines’ 65th anniversary and Mayflower Transit’s 85th anniversary, has opened the Heritage Center. The 25,000-square foot Center, located at UniGroup’s Fenton, Missouri headquarters, is a permanent exhibit of the company’s history.

Johnson provided the following equipment for the dedication ceremony on May 2:
• 1953 International Fageol van known as “Round Nose”
• 1965 International Emeryville tractor and 1970 Fruehauf van known as “Emily”

The Fagol van originated from the Johnson Storage and moving headquarters in Centennial, Colorado and took a load along the 850 mile trip to the Heritage Center in Fenton, Missouri.

“We were proud to support the opening of UniGroup’s Heritage Center with our two “Old Timers” (trucks). United and Mayflower are terrific institutions and it was a great day to celebrate,” said Don Hindman, Executive Vice President Johnson Storage & Moving Co.

The deliveries originated from six sites ranging from as far south as Pueblo, Colorado to as far north as Longmont, Colorado.

The Girl Scouts of Colorado serves more than 30,000 girls across the state -school age kindergarten through twelfth grade- with the additional support of more than 9,000 volunteers.

“This is the twenty-second year we’ve been honored to deliver cookies for the Girl Scouts in Colorado and the largest one day demand on crew in those twenty-two years. We were worried but prepared and we’re pleased to say the Girl Scout Council of Colorado believes the day went very well,” said Jim Johnson, President Johnson Storage & Moving Co.

A video by the Longmont Times-Call highlights this effort.

Background:

The Johnson teddy bear logo was created in the 80’s by one of the Johnson family members as a symbol of our care in moving families’ most prized possessions, including teddy bears! The bear has gained a following over the years and we frequently receive comments about how cute it is, or how much it reminds people of home, etc. We also have a lot of people comment “oh yeah, you’re the guys with the bear on the trucks” which makes us smile.

More recently, the bear has taken on a life of its own, and morphed into different characters as we expand into different businesses. We now have the International Bear (holding a globe); a commercial bear (suit and tie of course); a records management bear (swimming in documents); and many others. This bear is on the move (literally) and experiences all kinds of adventures transporting and delivering goods across the globe.

How the Contest Works:

Suggest a name for the bear along with an explanation of how the name ties-in to the bear’s moving adventures by sending an email to dhindman@johnson-united.com Also remember to post your suggestion on our Facebook wall https://www.facebook.com/JohnsonStorage The winning entry (or entries if it’s a tie) will receive $50.00 along with bragging rights on the JSM website and social media (collective prize capped at $250.00).

Thanks for your participation and good luck!
